Brief Description:
Visit the Railroad Village of restored local Railroad
Buildings in a park-like setting. Buildings currently
include the Chaplin CT Station, Groton CT Freight
House, Willimantic CT House and the rebuilt Columbia
Junction Roundhouse.
As you explore
the site either by yourself or as part of a tour
you will find members expanding the Rail Network
to properly exhibit saved equipment or restoring
the equipment and buildings. Members are
doing this so that they will survive for future generations,
while at the same time helping people to understand
the importance of the railroads to the past and future
of Eastern Connecticut and the United States of America.
Events to
watch for through the season:
Annual Heritage
Metal Festival, first Saturday of May. Across
the Museum site there are multiple Metal Smiths demonstrating
how different items were made before mass production,
while bands are playing at various locations throughout
the Museum.
Annual Night
Photo Shoot, first Saturday of June. The photo
shoot starts at dusk, where a small group of people
(due to safety) are allowed to take photos of the
equipment, buildings and volunteers staged in different
locations through the site to recreate views of the
past.
Rhythm on
the Rails Concert Series, multiple Saturdays throughout
the summer. Many bands and groups will use
the Flatcar as a stage for free concerts sponsored
by some of the great businesses in the area (though
donations are always appreciated to help the Museum).
Other events
to be announced, please watch the website for more
information.
